With every passing day, it becomes ever clearer that making a success of Brexit will require a deep, sustained partnership between government and business.

Over the coming months, we must work tirelessly together at both a strategic and a technical level – to achieve both the best possible overall deal, and to deliver the answers to the practical, real-world questions that firms pose each and every day.

Many of the business communities I represent see the Westminster and media debates on Brexit as something occurring on a far-off planet, far removed from their day-to-day concerns.

In truth, only a minority of firms are actively thinking about Brexit at all – with a majority far more concerned about the impact of government policies and decisions closer to home.

Yet for those that see Brexit as a clear and present danger, the basics must come first. “Will our goods get stuck at border crossings…
